(Issued April 2008) -- There was magic in the air at New York’s Riccardo's By the Bridge on February 25th -- and it wasn’t just because there was a magician in the room.

The occasion: Over 150 industry leaders gathered to honor David S. Cohen, President and CEO of Firestone Financial Corp., who was named 2007 ‘Man of the Year’ by the Amusement Music Owners Association of New York (AMOA-NY).  During his 22 years with the company, Firestone has grown to become one of the leading independent providers of financing to the coin-op amusement and vending industries.

Speakers at the event included: Frank Calland of E&S Music- President of AMOA-NY; Russ Mawdsley of Russell-Hall, Inc. - AMOA First Vice President, and Rick Kirby - President of Betson.

Among attendees were a ‘Who’s Who’ in the region’s industry, including operators, distributors and manufacturers, as well as a dozen Firestone staffers from the company’s Newton, Mass. location, and David’s two daughters.

In his remarks, David Cohen said, “It’s impossible to add up all of the equipment financing we’ve provided, or all of the operators with whom we’ve done business. I estimate that since our founding in 1965, we have provided over $1 billion dollars worth of financing to this industry.”

David added, “Our ability to provide service, succeed in our business plan and stay focused depend on such key traits as clear vision, great execution, and the ability deliver a good product (money to lend out). You also need to have good people working with you which we do…  People have come from all across the country this evening.  I’m grateful for your friendship and for our business relationships. Thank you.”

In his remarks Firestone Executive VP and CFO Scott Cooper said, “Firestone’s image has never been better in the marketplace, with its banks, Board, employees or with its customers.  David has assembled a skilled staff. His leadership and vision has been a significant factor in Firestone’s success.”
Executive Director of AMOA-NY, Danny Frank, put a lot of work into organizing the event and Nick Montano, VP and Executive Editor of Vending Times, assembled a Tribute Journal. The journal included nearly 100 congratulatory ads from business associates and friends of David and included a history of Firestone.

Indicative of the influence that David has had in the industry is the list of well-known operators, distributors, manufacturers, banks and other business partners that purchased tribute ads to honor David and support AMOA-NY.

AMOA-NY is a not-for-profit corporation which represents and promotes the interests of businesses that own and operate coin-operated amusement and music equipment throughout New York State.

AMOA-NY’s Board of Directors and Officers are: Frank Calland, President (E & S Music); Joe Bossolina, VP (McGee Amusement); Ken Goldberg, Secretary (PLK Vending); Tony Elefante, Treasurer (Ralph Elefante, Inc.); Howard Herman (County Amusement Co.); Alan Hiller (Musical Moments); Howard Preschel (CMG Vending Enterprises); Danny Frank, Executive Director; Bill Schnell, Government Affairs Representative.
