ORONO, ME — Sound levels in four local videogame arcades peaked at levels so high they could cause temporary hearing losses in just 30 seconds, according to a survey conducted by graduate students from the University of Maine.

The highest sound levels were issued from racing, shooting and combat videogames, the students observed. Attract modes continued at top volume on some games, the study also pointed out.
